Disease Research Goes On Year Round At LSU AgCenter
There are a lot of diseases that can affect grain crops across Louisiana.
Dr. Boyd Padgett at the Dean Lee Research Station is using funds provided by the Louisiana Soybean, Grain Research and Promotion Board to find out what can be done to bring those diseases under control.
Padgett says researchers mostly stay in the field 12 months a year.
“Bottom line is if disease management programs don’t put money in growers pockets it’s not really worth anything to them,” said Padgett. “We certainly have tests at research stations but we also collaborate with producers and this gives us the advantage of actually going to a location where disease may be more severe in that particular area.”
Padgett also points out with the collaborative efforts between the LSU AgCenter and producers “they can see for themselves first hand as well as their neighbors how effective these disease management practices are.”
