New Tactics Being Tried To Control Weeds At Harvest

LSU Extension Service Weed Scientist Dr. Lauren Lizaro is using funds provided by the Louisiana Soybean, Grain Research and Promotion Board to find ways of controlling weeds left over after harvest.

She says one of those methods is Harvest Weed To Control. “Harvest Weed To Control is a non-chemical weed management tactic at harvest time.”

When weeds have escaped at harvest and those weeds produce seed at harvest time “what we’re trying to do is reduce them or limit them from growing back into the soil seed bank to be a continuing problem year after year. We are utilizing a few different of those tactics, mainly chaff lining and narrow wind row burning to achieve this,” said Lizaro.
