Agricultural Policy And Market Situation Newsletter (Volume III, Issue 3)
By Dr. Michael Diliberto, LSU AgCenter Economist
The primary focus of the newsletter is to provide an objective perspective on the Trump and Biden campaign position on a range of agriculture and regulatory issues. These unedited, but summarized, campaign responses from both President Trump and former Vice President Biden were provided to the American Farm Bureau Federation as well as to Farm Progress and Agri-Pulse Communications. In addition to Presidential politics, I have included a forecast from the University of Virginia Center for Politics previewing some of the U.S. Senate races this fall.
The other focus area of this newsletter is on U.S. agricultural trade relations with China. Strong agricultural exports are assisting in supporting farm prices thus far in the 2020/21 marketing year, but a larger question is whether China will meet its Phase One agreement obligations.
