Charles “Chuck” Marohn Coming to Ruston, Louisiana
CAMPTI – Campti Field of Dreams is excited to announce that Charles “Chuck” Marohn, founder and president of Strong Towns will be leading a Curbside Chat at Back To Your Roots 2019 on Friday, March 8th from 12:30 – 1:00 pm followed by a roundtable discussion from 2:00 – 2:30 pm as part of the Back To Your Roots conference (March 7-9) at Louisiana Tech University Reese Hall. The Mission of Strong Towns is to support a model of development that allows America’s cities, towns and neighborhoods to grow finally strong and resilient. In their work, they ask crucial and difficult questions about today’s cities: Why are our governments so short of resources despite decades of growth? Why do we struggle at the local level just to maintain our basic infrastructure? What do we do now that the economy has changed so dramatically? This thought-provoking presentation will take you right Back To Your Roots!
Back To Your Roots is an outreach event, funded in part by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Speaking on behalf of NRCS will be Amanda Mathis, Arkansas’s Assistant State Conservationist for Partnerships. She points out that, “Revitalization of local food sources within rural and urban communities is more vital now than ever before. These operations play a key role in community wellness, economic opportunity, and environmental sustainability. NRCS is committed to providing science based, local led conservation solutions to help local operations thrive.”
Mathis earned her undergraduate degree in Conservation and Wildlife Management from the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri and during that time volunteered and interned for the Natural Resources Conservation Service as an Earth Team volunteer. After graduating, she began her career with NRCS as a soil conservationist in various locations throughout Arkansas, serving as District Conservationist in multiple Arkansas counties. Her current role is to work to enhance collaborative efforts to achieve the conservation mission, and she leads the Regional Conservation Partnership Program and the Mississippi River Basin Initiative for the state of Arkansas.
Amanda Mathis will address the conference during the opening plenary on Friday, March 8, along with Dr. Les Guice, President, Louisiana Tech University, Jane Watts of the Ross Lynn Foundation and Dr. Tim Seipel, Plant Ecologist from Montana State University.
