Louisiana Cotton Growers Getting Ready For The 2018 Season

LSU AgCenter Extension Service cotton specialist Dr. Dan Fromme says he hopes those freezing temperatures we had across the state earlier this month will kill at least some bugs.

Fromme also suggests producers should be checking soil moisture conditions.

"The rainfall that we've just received is welcome from that standpoint. You always like to start off the year with a full soil profile," said Fromme.

Weed control before planting is going to be at the forefront as well.

"As we're sitting here getting ready to start this year one of the first things to think about as far as cotton producers are concerned is variety selection,' Fromme said.

The cotton variety trials have now been summarized whether it's from the LSU AgCenter trial results or the private company results.

"For interests that are planting cotton, they're looking at these results and making some planting decision on what varieties they're going to plant" Fromme pointed out.

For more information, you can go to LSUAgCenter.com, click on crops, go to cotton, then varieties and you'll find the Louisiana cotton varieties for 2018.
