Agriculture Highly Technical Says Strain

During his report on the Voice of Louisiana Agriculture Radio Network, Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Mike Strain pointed out agriculture in this country is now highly technical and rural areas of the country need full inter-connectivity.

Strain returned Thursday from a several day meeting of the Northeastern Commissioners of Agriculture Association in Cooperstown, New York.  Strain serves as president this year of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture.

“One of the dairy farms I visited while in Cooperstown was fully robotic where robots milk the cows while another farm milks 3500 head of dairy cattle three times a day with robots,” said Strain.

“Another was a calf feeding operation where all the feeding was fully automated and robotic.  All the trucks and other equipment use inter-connectivity and a great deal of technology. So technology is now key in agriculture,” Strain stated.
