Soybean Check-Off Dollars Fund More Than Just Research
By Don Molino, The Voice of Louisiana Agriculture Radio Network
Research projects funded through the Louisiana Soybean and Grain Research and Promotion Board at the LSU AgCenter have been going on for years. One of the primary goals of that research is to make life at least a little better for Louisiana grain farmers.
But the funds granted to the AgCenter don’t just go only to research projects, but to other vital aspects of research as well.
Dr. Rogers Leonard, Associate Vice-President of the AgCener and Program Leader for Plants, Soils and Agriculture Water Resources, says some of the funding is used to support Louisiana residents.
“Many of the students and support personnel, research extension associates, etc., are supported by these dollars,” says Leonard, “So a lot of the work that’s being accomplished is from people here in Louisiana.”
“We’re very fortunate we have the expertise in our own state to be able to perform the research and training extension activities that are necessary to help our farmers,” said Leonard.
