Regional Conservation Partnership Program Application Deadline is April 21st

ALEXANDRIA, La - The Louisiana Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is accepting applications for the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP).

What is RCPP?

The Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) is a partner-driven, locally-led approach to conservation led by USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). It offers new opportunities for NRCS, conservation partners and agricultural producers to work together to harness innovation, expand the conservation mission, and demonstrate the value and efficacy of voluntary, private lands conservation.

Who can apply?

Conservation partners represent a wide variety of groups, including Indian tribes, nonprofit organizations, state and local governments, Soil and Water Conservation Districts, private industry, universities and many others. So far, more than 2,000 partners are engaged in locally-led conservation efforts through RCPP.

How do you apply?

The partners develop project applications, as described in the annual RCPP Application for Program Funding, to address specific natural resource objectives in a proposed area or region. Partnering organizations design, promote, implement and evaluate the project outcomes.  You can find information on the application process by visiting our website at: https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/detail/national/programs/farmbill/rcpp/?cid=nrcseprd1309629

What makes a successful proposal?

The most successful RCPP projects share four common characteristics.

-       they innovate

-        leverage additional contributions

-        offer impactful solutions

-        engage more participants.

Projects should focus on locally driven, public-private partnerships that improve the nation’s water quality, enhance soil health, support wildlife habitat and protect agricultural viability.  Applicants must match or exceed the federal award with private or local funds.

Project applications are due on or before April 21, 2017. If you have questions about RCPP and how to apply contact Scott Edwards, Assistant State Conservationist for Programat (318) 473-7766 or scott.edwards@la.usda.gov
