Soybean Board Meeting Gets Closer

The annual November Project Review Meeting of the Louisiana Soybean and Grain Research and Promotion Board will be held November 16th and 17th in Efferson Hall on the LSU Baton Rouge campus.

Board Chairman Charles Canatella from St. Landry Parish says the research funded through the board has been quite effective.

“Ten or so years ago we had what we call the “green bean effect,” said Canatella. “We did an all-out assault on that and found out it was a combination of environmental issues and insect issues but we’ve corrected some of those.”

Cercospora Leaf Blight is another disease researchers are working on now “but we haven’t broken through on that problem yet,” Canatella continued. “Hopefully maybe this year LSU will find something that will help us in that area.”

Support for the board’s efforts continues to be vital to keep the Louisiana soybean industry healthy.

“All our check-off dollars that all the growers put into the program are vital in getting the research that we need done.  Its great to have the support of the growers both statewide and nationally that see a benefit from investing their own dollars into research to make them more successful.  That’s the name of the game,” said Canatella.
