Special Legislative Session Just Around the Corner
By Don Molino
Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Mike Strain was back at the state capitol Wednesday meeting with Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne about next fiscal years budget.
During his daily report on the Voice of Louisiana Agriculture Radio Network, Strain also said there is probably going to be a special session of the legislature sometime around Mardi Gras. The regular session begins April 10th.
Strain attended the American Farm Bureau Convention in Phoenix over the week-end as President of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture. He says AFBF President Zippy Duvall reported to the convention if over regulation and labor needs in the agriculture sector aren’t fixed in the near future nothing else will matter because over regulation will put farmers and ranchers out of business.
Rural America is being credited with helping put Donald Trump in the White House. And Strain says Duvall pointed out the election sent a message loud and clear to the nations politicians: ignore rural America at your own risk.
