ASAP: Agricultural Safety Awareness Program Week - Tractor Safety
Agricultural Safety Awareness Program Week continues with today's focus on tractor safety.
"I think it's improved from the standpoint that you're seeing a lot of older tractors that didn't have a ROPS (Roll Over Protective Structure) not being used anymore," said Wendell Miley, Safety Director for the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation. "A lot of your newer tractors nowadays have a ROPS. When a tractor rolls over, hopefully is protects the farmer from being crushed by the tractor or the trailing equipment," Miley added.
In order for a ROPS to be effective, farmers must remember to buckle their seatbelt to hold them in place in case of a rollover.
