Strain: House Passes One Penny Temporary Sales Tax; Excludes Most of Agriculture

The House of Representatives has passed a one cent temporary sales tax to help plug the hole in the state budget.  In his daily radio address Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Mike Strain said agricultural inputs are mostly protected from the additional tax.

"A number of issues have passed over from the House to the Senate, one of which is the one cent temporary sales tax.  It so far excludes most of agriculture," said Strain.  "There's still some tweaking to do.  We're working with the administration and the bill's author to get it in the right posture."

The Special Session of the Legislature ends Wednesday, March 2nd.
