Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Mike Strain had meetings at the US Department of Agriculture Wednesday and the White House on Thursday on plans to build trade with Cuba.

“How did we get to where we are and where we need to be?  What is going to be the plan?  What is going to be the platform?  What is going to be the lesson when we can go ahead and work with the governments of both Cuba and the United States?” Strain said. “We need to find a path where we can begin selling agriculture products to Cuba.”

Strain went on to say the overall world economy is expected to grow by only 1.7%  and “we need to make sure that we are selling as much of our agriculture products as we can in order to stabilize our agricultural prices.”

The commissioner returned to Louisiana last night and will be meeting later today with the Restore Louisiana Taskforce in Monroe.
