Here is our second of two Harvest Survey Reports. Thanks to everyone who participated.
Louisiana, Red River, Natchitoches, Caddo and Desoto Parishes, Dealer Fieldman/Agronomist:
Date of report: 11/3
- Percent picked: 95%
- Average yield: 950 lbs/acre
- What helped this season?: Better varieties and better management of pigweed.
- What hurt this season?: RAIN, RAIN, RAIN. and low crop prices.
- Do differently next year?: Hopefully, XTend and Enlist technology, as well as more irrigation.
- How are other crops turning out?: Corn was at or above average. Early harvested soybeans were disastrous due to a month of rainfall that caused damage. Later planted beans had above average yields.
Louisiana, Caddo Parish, Private Consultant:
Date of report: 11/2
- Percent picked: 100%
- Average yield: Shy of 2 bales per acre.
- What hurt this season?: Early excess precipitation, 7 weeks of drought, 2.5 weeks of rain in August while cotton was opening. Also, target spot.
- Do differently next year?: Nothing..
- How are other crops turning out?: Little less than average for the area.
Louisiana, Richland and Red River Parishes, Private Consultant:
Date of report: 11/2
- Percent picked: 100%
- Average yield: 1,150 lbs/acre
- What helped this season?: Light bug year overall.
- What hurt this season?: Too much rain in August.
- Do differently next year?: More cotton, more Pix.
- How are other crops turning out?: Corn wasn't good, beans were average, rice was below average.
