Soybean & Grain Board Funds Projects for 2016
Story by Don Molino
The Louisiana Soybean and Grain Research and Promotion Board has held its annual meeting to review all the project proposals presented to the board for this year.
Board Manager Kyle McCann says due to crop sizes and prices being down, they had to reduce the level of funding, but were still able to commit to funding projects and programs for 1.9 million dollars.
"Included in that," says McCann, "is research with the Aflatoxin Mitigation Center where the partner with several other states to try to address aflatoxin issues. Also the Mid-South Soybean Board, a group comprised of several mid-south states and their check-off board where they put in and get matching money from the United Soybean Board to address regional issues."
The board has also earmarked a little over $1.7 million for projects to be conducted by the LSU AgCenter.
The next meeting of the board will be held in conjunction with the Northeast Research Station field day which is normally held in mid-June.
"Then in November," says McCann," they (the board) will review the projects they have just funded to see what results were obtained."
