Today is the Last Day to Apply for the Linda and Wayne Zaunbrecher Legacy Scholarship.

Linda and Wayne Zaunbrecher’s legacies have continued to empower the future of Louisiana agriculture.

Lifetime residents of Vermilion Parish, the Zaunbrechers were rice and cattle farmers. Prior to their deaths, Wayne was a board member of the Vermilion Parish Farm Bureau and Treasurer of the Louisiana Rice Promotion Board. Linda served as Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation (LFBF) 3rd Vice President, a board member, Chair of the State Women’s Leadership Committee and a member of the LFBF scholarship committee since the early 1990s.

Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation is devoted to agriculture, and there is no better demonstration of that than by investing in the future generations of farm and ranch families. In 1993, LFBF formed a tax-exempt foundation, Louisiana Farm Bureau Foundation, to award scholarships to deserving students who chose to major in agricultural-related studies.

Since then, it has awarded 191 scholarships–nearly half a million dollars– to assist high school seniors in their college careers. To honor their many years of volunteerism and loyal service to the Louisiana Farm Bureau, this scholarship is known as “The Linda and Wayne Zaunbrecher Scholarship.”

In May 2025, LFBF will award up to $3,000 to five applicants submitted by the parish Farm Bureaus. These winners will be selected based on academic achievement, ACT scores, individual leadership in their high school and community, participation in selected parish and state Farm Bureau activities and financial need.

Louisiana Ag in the Classroom State Coordinator Lynda Danos requested that 2025 highschool seniors review the eligibility requirements. Those who plan to major in agriculture, agricultural education, agribusiness, agriscience or another agricultural related field and meet the other requirements should complete the application.

Today, Monday, February 3, 2025 is the application deadline. An applicant may apply to only one parish Farm Bureau. Each parish Farm Bureau is eligible to submit one application for consideration as a state winner. Winners who maintain academic and curriculum eligibility may reapply each succeeding year to continue their scholarships for a total of four consecutive years.
