The Farmer's Forecast: More Soybean Planting Delays

Louisiana Farm Bureau News/Cenla Weather
I genuinely wish I had better news in this update. Corn is in the ground, and that’s a great start. I know fertilizing needs to happen for some, and others are in the process of planting cotton and soybeans. If not already in the process, I’m sure you want to be. I don’t see that happening for the next week to 10 days.
An additional 3-8 inches of rain is likely through the weekend. That’s on top of what we’ve already seen. There will be a severe threat mixed in with this, with isolated damaging wind, and crop damaging hail possible. That will be much more isolated than the saturating rains in our forecast.
Rain will end across the state late Monday night, but will ramp back up early Thursday, and come in waves into the weekend. 3-8 inches is a large range, but I’ve posted the precipitation accumulation map so you can see where the worst of this should fall. It looks like the worst will happen right across the middle of the state, with no area remaining untouched. I don’t think much fieldwork will be possible this week. Beyond the weekend, I don’t see a strong signal for more heavy rain, but I don’t see a definite string of dry days. I think we will at least keep scattered rain in the forecast for next week. I’ll be watching, and updating as needed.
