The Farmer's Forecast: Severe Weather Today

Louisiana Farm Bureau News/Cenla Weather
Active weather is returning to Louisiana for a brief, but potentially rough round of strong to severe thunderstorms on Monday. The severe threat stretches across the entire state, and unfortunately, there will be a risk for at least a couple tornadoes. The most widespread issue will be gusty wind, with widespread gusts in the 40-50 mph range. Those gusts will exist anywhere ahead of the front, and a wind advisory has been issued for all of Louisiana because of this potential. Where storms are occurring, scattered wind gusts over 60 mph are likely.
The highest chance for severe weather will be over the northeastern quarter of the state, including the area near, and northeast of a line from Ruston to Alexandria to New Roads. That’s where the best combination of instability, wind shear, and atmospheric lift will occur. Given the intense wind energy, there will be the threat for scattered wind damage, as well as isolated tornadoes. Rainfall amounts look manageable, with 0.5 to 1.5 inches falling in most locations.
Rain will start as early as 8 a.m. across extreme northwest Louisiana. The line of storms will cross into Mississippi around 6 p.m., and will exit southeast Louisiana by late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Make sure you have a way to get warnings If you’re looking for an app that will have you covered on everything, I recommend the Cenla Weather app. Of course I do, since it’s my app! Monday will be a day to pay attention to warnings, since this set up favors the possibility of a couple of strong tornadoes, especially in northeast Louisiana. Stay safe!
