Compete for Cash Prizes During the Inaugural Louisiana Ag Week

Cash prizes and bragging rights are up for grabs during the inaugural Louisiana Ag Week taking place March 18 through 22.

The Louisiana Ag in the Classroom program will be hosting a coloring contest, art contest and a video contest for students in all grades during Ag Week.

“As the inaugural Louisiana Ag Week approaches, I hope to have as much participation in each and every contest offered,” said Lynda Danos, Louisiana Ag in the Classroom State Coordinator.

The Young Sprouts Coloring Contest is a great way for students in Pre-K to second grade to learn about Louisiana commodities. Students may color any of the Louisiana commodity coloring pages located on the Louisiana Ag Week Page. They may use markers, crayons, and colored pencils on their media.

Students in grades third through eighth can participate in the Growing Artists Contest. Students may submit an original piece of art on a sheet of paper no larger than 9x12. The artwork is to be inspired based on the contest theme, Louisiana Agriculture. The art can be made with makers, crayons, colored pencils, ink, watercolor, acrylic and tempera.

The winners of the art contest will be award with a cash prize. There will be two overall winners chosen, one from grades third through fifth grade and another from sixth through eighth. These winners will be awarded $50. There will also be a winner in each grade level who will receive $25.

Highschoolers can really put their creativity to the test in the Future Farmers Video Contest. Students can put together an original film lasting 60 to 90 seconds. The film should address the progress of modern agriculture is making in facing the challenge of feed a growing population. The video contest winner will be awarded a cash prize of $150; second place will win $100 and third place $50.

“I hope that students learn the importance of agriculture, while being exposed through the unique contest we have,” said Danos.
