The Mississippi River is a critical infrastructural waterway connecting U.S. products to export customers globally. Gov. John Bel Edwards will be meeting with U.S. farmers and other organizations to discuss its economic impact on the state of Louisiana.
This is something farmers and other state leaders have been pushing for some time now and today is the first step of it becoming reality. Edwards will host farmers as they create a multi-year financial investment to lower transportation costs, increase shipping loads per ocean vessel and help farmers’ bottom lines from Minnesota all the way to Louisiana. Many believe that deepening the Mississippi River from 45 to 50 feet will help them reach their economic goals and allow ships to carry millions of dollars more in exports and imports.
