Louisiana Farmer Leader Dies At 73

Ruben John Dauzat, Outstanding Master Farmer of the Year in 2014 and a 2016 inductee into the Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction, passed away at his home in Marksville on April 13th.
Dauzat grew up in Moncia and received a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Mechanics and a masters degree in Agriculture Economics, both from Louisiana State University.
He was the owner/operator of Wayside Farms, a row crop and cattle operation in Simmsport, and served on the board of the National Association of Conservation Districts as well as president and secretary/treasurer of the Louisian Association of Conservation Districts.
Dauzat was involved in numerous agriculture organizations in his native state, including the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association, Louisiana Farm Bureau, Louisiana Ag Leadership, LSU College of Agriculture and was instrumental in helping establish the 4-H State Museum in Avoyelles Parish.
He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Laura, a son and two daughters as well as eight grandchildren.
