Herbicide Application Research On Louisiana Soybean Fields

LSU AgCenter/Extension Service Weed Scientist Dr. Donnie Miller has been studying Dual Magnum, Warrant and Outlook residual herbicides and how they affect soybean crops.
“We initiated a few studies,” says Miller, “looking at the time of those applications. (For example) When would be the optimal timing where we make those applications? Do we need to have the residual at planting? Do we need to have it early post-emergence and then over the top or later in the season at late-post, which would kind of get us through that lay-by season where we can take advantage of the shade and the residual that comes with it.”
Their objectives were “obviously to compare these three products to see if we saw any difference with control of the weeds present and also if we saw any difference from an injury standpoint,” according to Miller.
“Because when they’re applied under high soil moisture conditions, high humidity conditions that we cana have early in the growing season, they can cause some leaf burn. Rarely will it result in soybean yield loss, but it can burn the leaves and could be quite concerning at first look.”
