St. Martin Parish crawfish farmer Jody Meche has served on the Louisiana Crawfish Promotion Board for some twenty years and has seen a lot of changes over those years.
“Over the years U’ve been on the board, its been extremely important to the farmer and also the wild producer in promoting our crawfish as far as putting it in the ear of the consumer.,” says Meche.
“Not only on a state level, or statewide, but also out of state and all across the country. From over the 20 years I’ve been on the (promotion) board we’ve increased the demand for Louisiana crawfish by marketing and advertising with ads and billboards and putting crawfish in the minds of people at the key times when we’re in our peak production so that we can have the crop of crawfish when it comes in.”
Meche also goes on to point out when crawfish farmers—both on the farm and wild raised—”are producing all at the same time, we have an extreme supply of crawfish that we have to get rid of.”
