The Louisiana Farm Bureau News

The sounds of shotgun blasts and shattering clay pigeons will again pull Louisiana Farm Bureau members from across the state to Benton, La. for the Louisiana Farm Bureau Sporting Clays Shootout.

Stay-at-home orders due to COVID-19 forced organizers to cancel the event in 2020. However, members of the Caddo, Bossier, Claiborne and Red River Parish Farm Bureaus are happy the outdoor event will go on this year.

The Sporting Clays Shootout raises money for the Louisiana Farm Bureau Foundation and the Louisiana Ag in the Classroom Foundation.

The Louisiana Farm Bureau Foundation awards scholarships each year to eligible graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue degrees in agriculture in Louisiana. This foundation has awarded 170 scholarships for a total of $420,000 to aid the future generation of farmers and ranchers since 1993.

The Louisiana Ag in the Classroom Foundation provides funding to the Louisiana Ag in the Classroom (AITC) program. The AITC program shows teachers how to use agriculture in teaching core subjects and provides those teachers with curriculum specific lesson plans and teaching materials aligned with Louisiana Student Standards.

The 2021 Louisiana Farm Bureau Sporting Clays Shootout will take place March 19 at Los Paloma Sporting Range, 900 Seven Pines Road in Benton, La. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. that morning. The cost is $125 per person or $500 per team. Participants can also pre-register by March 1. Ammunition will be available for purchase at the event.
