Earliest-Planted Rice nearing Harvest, Crop Rapidly Maturing in Other Regions
Harvest is nearing in South Louisiana and some areas of Texas. I estimate that close to 50% of the rice in south Louisiana is headed or close to heading. I believe that some of the earliest rice will have combines entering the field within the next week. In Texas, harvest is close for the earliest rice in the western region. I estimate that 30 to 40% or so of the rice west of Houston is headed or close to heading. In the eastern part of the region, the rice is just beginning to head.
The region has experienced areas of heavy rain and wind the past week or so. Pollination may have been affected by the storms depending on timing.
