Petting zoo, Educational Tours Set for SU Ag Center’s 77th Annual Livestock Show

WHAT: Nearly 120 budding farmers from throughout the state will show over 200 head of prize-worthy beef and dairy cattle, hogs, sheep, lamb and goats during our annual Livestock Show. Besides animals being judged for competition, almost 100 school-aged youth will participate in a petting zoo and a guided tour with educational presentations.

Southern University is the only HBCU (Historically Black College or Universities) that currently holds an annual livestock show.

WHEN: Friday, February 28, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. – Petting zoo and guided tours; 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Livestock Judging; 6 p.m. - Night with the Stars Old Fashion Livestock (Animal) Decorating Contest

Saturday, February 29, 8:30 a.m. – Awards Presentation; 10 a.m. – Jr. Auction Meat Sale

WHAT TO EXPECT: Youth, some as young as seven years old, showing their animals for competition. There will also be school-aged youth interacting with animals in a petting zoo, hands-on plant, tobacco-free living, and nutrition exhibits.
