Strain Meets With Louisiana Dairy Producers
By Don Molino, The Voice of Louisiana Agriculture Radio Network
Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Mike Strain spent a good deal of Thursday in Franklinton at the LSU AgCenter’s Southeast Dairy Research Station for a dairy conference.
Strain says he discussed with the producers how the dairy industry in Louisiana can become more valuable.
Right now there are about 1200 dairy cows across Louisiana making the dairy industry worth some $50-million to the Louisiana economy.
However, Strain pointed out 70% of the milk consumed by Louisiana residents is imported into the state.
