Maeleigh Conner, 16, of Cameron Parish, poses with Culotta, a miniature Hereford heifer at the 82nd annual LSU AgCenter Livestock Show at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales on Feb. 12, 2017.

A miniature cattle category was added to the show in 2016, when Conner and one other girl participated. About eight exhibitors participated in the category at the 2017 show. Conner said miniature cattle are good for younger kids and others who aren’t able to handle full-size animals.

“They’re fun,” she said. “They’re different. They add something to the program.” Behind Conner and Culotta are two miniature zebus, a cattle breed originating from south Asia.
