According to LSU AgCenter wheat and oat breeder Dr. Steve Harrison a new wheat variety released last year is showing a lot of promise.
"We released LA-06146 last fall and drew a big increase in Georgia this past winter," says Harrison. "It will be marketed as ASG-3000, or AgSouth Genetics 3000. And I think it's going to be a really, really good wheat for our growers."
Harrison reports ASG-3000 is an early wheat which produces high yields and very high test weights.
"It was running about 62 ½ test weight in that increased cutting in Georgia," says Harrison, "Had very good test weight in Winnsboro when we harvested last year.
"It also has excellent disease resistance and in particular it has some resistance to fusarium head blight which has been a huge problem for our growers the past couple of years."
