Soybean Research Goes On Statewide

by Don Molino

LSU Extension Service Soybean Specialist Dr. Ronnie Levy says soybean demonstrations continue to be a key area of research being conducted by the LSU AgCenter and funded by the Louisiana Soybean and Grain Research and Promotion Board.

The soybean demonstrations are carried out in various producers fields, says Levy.

"We have what we call Core Blank Demonstrations where we have the same seed varieties provided by various seed companies. We have about fifteen to twenty varieties that we plant in producers fields side by side, so we and the producers can see how they perform in that location," Levy went on to say.

And because there are seven LSU AgCenter research stations located around Louisiana "we are able to maybe pick up some disease pressure or some insect pressure that we may not have on (a particular) station," says Levy.

"So we can get some additional information to supplement some of the research that's going on at the research stations," Levy pointed out.
