Pacific Trade Deal a Win for Louisiana, if it Can Keep Rivers Clear

The reduction or elimination of tariffs would be a boon for Louisiana's agricultural economy, including its rice, cotton and soybean crops, said Jerry Hingle, executive director of the Southern United States Trade Association.

"It's a huge win for agriculture in Louisiana," he said. "Rice tariffs are scheduled to go down as much as 40 percent in places like Japan."
