Tangipahoa Parish Man Arrested For Theft Of Livestock

On March 19, 2023, inspectors with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Livestock Brand Commission arrested Mufid Thabatah of Hammond, Louisiana, for theft of 168 head of livestock.  

The arrest was the result of a brand commission investigation that determined that on eight different occasions between September and November of 2023, 52-year-old Thabatah received livestock from a livestock market in Tangipahoa Parish but allegedly failed to pay for them in a timely manner.

Kennedy, Louisiana Delegation Urge SBA to Make Emergency Declaration for Crawfish Producers

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, joined members of the Louisiana congressional delegation in urging Small Business Association (SBA) Administrator Isabel Guzman to make a disaster declaration so that Louisiana’s crawfish processors, wholesalers, boilers and other related enterprises can receive emergency assistance.

In 2023, Louisiana’s adverse weather hurt the crawfish harvest. The lawmakers gave their support to Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry’s declaration request.

Harvesting Knowledge: AgMagic Cultivates Understanding of Louisiana Agriculture

The LSU AgCenter in partnership with nonprofit 4-H is hosting “AgMagic,” an educational event at the Parker Coliseum. This interactive experience, designed to educate children about Louisiana agriculture and wildlife, expects to attract thousands over its weeklong run.

The event began March 18 and will last until March 24, with March 18-22 reserved for school groups visiting from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. and March 23-24 being open to the public from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
