Louisiana High School Seniors Eligible for National Rice Month College Scholarship Video Contest

The U.S. rice industry is giving away $10,000 to high school seniors in Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas as part of The Rice Foundation's annual National Rice Month Video Scholarship Contest. A Louisiana student hasn’t won the top grand prize since 2018 – and they are certainly due!

Students are asked to create a video that - in three minutes or less - shines a light on U.S.-grown rice. Past winners have focused on rice's versatility, culinary importance, nutritional value, economic contributions to the country and their state, the strong sustainability credentials, conservation accomplishments of rice farmers and millers around the country, and other topics of interest.

“Students have sent in serious mini-documentaries, humorous videos, including rice-centric parodies of popular films, original songs, dances, animation, and more," said Michael Klein, vice president of communications & strategic development for USA Rice that provides technical support for the Foundation. "We are always impressed with students' creativity so we're once again expecting great things. As long as they tell a positive story about U.S. rice - and use U.S. rice in the video - they're in the running!"

Klein explained there are three guaranteed scholarship prizes courtesy of American Commodity Company of Williams, California. The grand-prize winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship and a trip with a chaperone to the annual USA Rice Outlook Conference - this year in Nashville, Tennessee; the second-place winner receives a $3,000 scholarship; and third place receives $2,000. The top videos are screened at the USA Rice Outlook Conference and live on on USA Rice's YouTube page.

Interested students, parents, and teachers should visit www.reelricecontest.com for details, tips, and to view past winners. The deadline is October 31.
